Why 5S Implementation is Important within the Work Place
What is 5S?
"5S’ is one of the Japanese techniques which was introduced by Takashi Osada in the early 1980s [8]. It is basically a workplace management methodology which helps for improving working environment, human capabilities and thereby productivity" (Hirano, 1990)
Seiri (sorting) sorting out activities at work place in to wanted and unwanted things. keep all the things you need and remove all the unwanted things from your work place.
Seiton:(set in order)
according to the need , decide a proper place as you wish and Give proper identification to it for ease of search.. Keep everything at its defined place after use. Make sure every time that everything is at its place.
Seiso:(shine)
Always keep cleanliness at your workplace. Keep the tools always clean after its use. 3. Areas should be properly marked or painted.
Seiketsu:(standardize)
Define standard method/way of doing the work i.e. prepare standard operating procedure (SOP). then use that procedure to do the work , maintaining discipling at work place.
Shitsuke:(sustain)
Maintain consistency in all works and make sure every one will participate. make sure to perform activities periodically.
01. Reduction in space
5S implementation is a significant reduction in space needed for existing operations by cleaning and organizing work space, tools and materials will be labeled store in exact place and Shelving and racks optimize the storage of items in a smaller footprint.
02. Increase in quality
Keeping production equipment clean reduces equipment operation errors and enables faster retooling.
03. Lower cost
Zero wasted brings lower costs. Here the cost will be reduced by eliminating too much “stand by waste” in process inventory and ware house inventory. Elimination of too much handling documents and other materials and overly abundant storage places.
04. Reliable deliveries
When the errors and defects are eliminated, deliveries can go out on time and operations within the company will be highly visible and smooth. Also work is more efficient in waste free workshops.
05. It promotes safety
Injuries and break downs can be eliminated by discovering mechanical failures and immediately when equipment is kept in spotless condition. Also there will be well defined places to put things and will place the equipment and everything in safe manner.
06. Better maintenance
When the 5s implemented, equipment should be routinely wiped and polished. Also the condition of the equipment evaluate daily. When the daily maintenance tasks are integreated with daily cleaning tasks, equipment will be ready to use.
Conclusion
When there is a friendly environment within the organization, employees will be motivated to work. Also customers can easily recognize the proper places labeled to each tasks within the organization. That is attractive to eye. During this pandemic, employees are working under shifts. So people are rotating on job roles as everybody cannot report to work. So when the 5s has implemented within the work place, it will make it easier for the employees to continue work. Even it is a job role of any other employee.

5S is a system for organizing space, so work can be done, effectively, efficiently and safely. This method focuses on keeping everything they have and keeping the workplace clean, thereby making it easier for people to do their work without wasting time or risking injury. The 5D system has a prominent place in kaizen practice.
ReplyDeleteGood one.
Five S system is globally identified theory orgin from Japan and developed all over the world because of the effectiveness came up by adopting in practical manner. There are lot of examples globally and locally can be found on the subject. Viewers can get a clear idea of what is 5 S's by going through this article.
ReplyDelete5s and kaizen, both are founded by Japanses a d nowadays practice all over the world. It makes life so easy. Sorting, set in order,, shine, standardize and sustain are the basic 5 stages. When we used to it, we really feel that the life is so easy. Clearly gives the idea with good examples.
ReplyDeleteThere are many application being considered.
ReplyDeleteApplying 5S to the organization which enhance employees motivation to work.
ReplyDeleteSuch a interesting topic and you gave a clear idea about the 5S and that process. Its very important to implement in an organization to reach quality and efficiency goals. Its save lots, such as money, time, wastages etc...
ReplyDeletegood point brother ,i think this 5S concept is came from japan .japanes are trained them self in a child hood for this kind of thing form there children even in there schools all so this kind of things are teach them well that why as a country they are moving foreword well ,but when we consider on our education system this kind of life value thing are not trained, this is a big mistake don buy us i thinks we need to focused on this kind of good things as well.
ReplyDeleteMore import concept to practice that helps to all the organization increase the efficiency and quality of the works.
ReplyDeleteFirst, you take a tool, a solution for a poorly investigated problem or even a non existing problem. (I guess the most important reason for 5S is for senior management to be able to showcase a “beautiful plant”) If you would investigate your problems properly you would come up with your own solutions. These are always better than a copied solution from someone else.
