Organizational need to adapt to flexible working

Working flexibly is more than just a trend. It reflects an enormous shift in the way organizations and their employees handle their work. The lockdown has forced companies to rapidly adjust to new work patterns. And now we're thinking about implementing some of these new practices in the longer term as the constraints begin to ease.

What Is Flexible Working?

Flexible working is any work pattern that differs significantly from the traditional, office-based, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. standard. Working from home, working flexible hours, sharing jobs, or a combination of both of these may be involved.

Benefits of Flexible Working

How Flexible Working Benefits Employees

Flexible working has many advantages for an employee. It will help you align the work of the employee with your other tasks, such as caring for kids or an elderly member of the family.

It can also build a sense of independence over the work of workers, which can improve engagement and job satisfaction. Being able to plan work to suit you will help with time management, and to reduce stress. It helps you incorporate self-care into your everyday life, making it easier, for example, to integrate exercise into your day. Financial benefits can include being able to schedule travel on public transport at cheaper times, traveling less, or not having to commute at all.

 How Flexible Working Benefits Organizations

Flexible working has been a crucial factor in companies' ability to recruit and retain skilled workers in recent years. For younger workers, who increasingly expect varying hours and home work to be part of every job offer, the preference for flexible work was especially pronounced.

Often since committed workers are more likely to continue with a company, a flexible work strategy will increase the retention of employees and reduce the cost of recruiting. Employers may also hire from a broader pool, since future workers may not always have to work within a distance of commuting.

Flexible work schedules will also reduce the running costs of the office, as not everybody is still in the office (though, in the current climate, some of that space may be needed to enable social distancing).

Benefits to Society

Traveling off-peak and working from home in the Covid-19 period helps with social distancing. In the longer term, due to a reduction in travel, flexible working can help to reduce pollution. Furthermore in various areas, more individuals may take on a broader variety of work. The integration of careers, elderly people, and people with disabilities or chronic conditions in the workforce is often facilitated by flexible working.

Conclusion

A flexible corporation would find more environmental opportunities and take advantage of these opportunities, allowing itself to benefit in markets in which it would not be feasible for more rigid businesses to succeed. It is able to change with the times if you allow your business to become adaptable, and it can thrive longer, becoming continuously more prosperous.

There should be proper supervion when flexible working is allowed, other than there is no use for organization or to employee of that flexibility.

Most of IT sector companies practicing this in Sri Lanka but in service supplying organizations can not apply this in real as the deficient of employees.

Unless like covid 19 pandemic as government state to minimize working employees, banks and more companies allowing flexible work is just a dream.

  3. We have practically faced the flexible working during the pandemic situation while banking services being an essential service. Some of employees reported to work as work from home while some reported to nearest branch to their home. We have to be mindful that the service quality is remaining same as we work in the office environment.
