10 Effective Training and Development Methods
Employees
and employers have different ways of bringing the improvement of employee
skills into motion. The overarching objective is to improve the wide range of
skills of employees, whether it be flexibility, organizational, creativity,
communication or leadership.
Training refers to a formal structure in which workers are
educated and taught technical skills related to their jobs. It focuses on
teaching workers how to use specific equipment or how to improve productivity
by performing particular tasks.
Development
refers to the overall growth and maturity of people
in managerial positions in holistic and educational terms.
There are
some effective training and development methods we can discuss;
01.
Classroom Lecture Method
It saves time because in a limited amount of time, it covers the maximum number of people. It requires a speech with very little discussion by the lecturer. Clear and direct presentation approaches. The technique's drawbacks are that lecture time is more than the average time of human attention.
02. Job Rotation Method
This training method involves shifting trainees from one job
to another in order to broaden their exposure and allow them to develop a
general understanding of the company as a whole. To allow the creation of a
high degree of competence in the trainee in an assigned role, the approach
should be used with appropriate gaps.
03.
Personal Coaching
Method
It is an
on-the-job technique where a manager has the ability to teach on a one-to-one
basis to an employee, usually his immediate subordinate.
04.
Mentoring Method
Mentoring is an on-the-job training strategy in which the
trainee is given a chance to learn from more experienced members of the company
on a one-to-one basis. Typically, the mentor is an older, experienced executive
who acts as a host, friend, confidant and counselor to a new company member.
05.
Group Discussion Method
It is a
tool used by trainees for information and attitudinal growth. Picture sets of
individuals analyze several empirical studies in this approach to identify
commonalities to extract the underlying general principles.
06.
Role Playing Method
Role is a set of expectations around a given position and is
decided by the role partners. Roles are often reciprocal and defined in pairs
such as trainer-trainee, buyer seller, interviewer-interviewee and so on.
07.
Outward Bound Training (OBT) Method
As part of OBT, managers and other staff members meet and
cohabitate as teams at unfamiliar wilderness out of the workplace and away from
the hustles and bustles of daily life, where they would live in cabins or tents
for a certain number of days.
08.
In -basket Training (IBT) Method
IBT is a methodology in which a trainee would review a basket
full of papers and files relating to his field of work and make suggestions on
the issues found in them. This technique is intended for trainees to develop
their decision-making and problem-solving skills at a managerial level.
09.
Apprenticeship Training Method
It integrates instructions in the classroom with on-the-job
training. It is a technique in which trainees, called 'apprentices' at an
inexperienced level, work under the supervision of a trained, licensed
instructor and earn lower pay than staff. The strategy is a mix of education
and jobs and seeks to train workers with certain skills to meet the rising
needs of the sector.
10.
Internship Method
Internships entail putting young college and university students
in temporary jobs that they can earn while studying, with no commitments on the
part of the employer or the trainee for any regular work.
Conclusion
Training and Development is one of the main responsibilities of the department of human resource management. Development refers to the overall growth and maturity of people in managerial roles in holistic and educational terms. In terms of perspectives, behaviors, adaptability, leadership and human relations, the growth process is linked.
